The Shepherd

"But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means the least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel." ~ Matthew 2:6

Poimaino ... Greek, to shepherd. Involves much more than to feed; it implies the whole task of the shepherd, guiding and guarding the flock as well as leading it to nourishment.

Christ is our shepherd.

Guiding us ... Gently calling to us to follow Him, to take His yoke, to go in His name.

Guarding us ... Tenderly interceding on our behalf, watching over our hearts and minds.

Our Shepherd is tender and gentle, compassionate and loving. He longs for fellowship with us ... and to give us the good nourishment that will sustain us.

Our Shepherd is the gift of God.

Announced to shepherds on a dark night in the fields outside of Bethlehem.

A promise fulfilled.

A Shepherd who guards and guides ... and leads to nourishment.

How has the Lord shepherded you? In what ways have you experienced His guidance? The protection of His guarding? How do live in the blessing of the nourishment He provides?
