The Lamb of God

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"

John 1:29, NIV

He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth ...

Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Isaiah 53:7, 12, NIV

We have two candlelight communion services each year at our church ... Christmas Eve and Good Friday.

Tonight we will celebrate a baby born in a wooden manger ... the great gift of Christ's birth.

But we will also look ahead to a man nailed to a wooden cross ... the great sacrifice of Christ's death.

For Christmas is only the beginning ...
