Christmas at Chez Underwood ~ the kitchen

Welcome to the first stop on the Holiday Tour through Chez Underwood! But before we get started, let me invite you to visit my sweet friend Kristi Saturday (November 21) at Run the Earth, Watch the Sky. Kristi's blog is wonderful ... and challenging ... and interesting ... and fun! And I have grown to love and respect this precious woman who seeks the Lord with all her being. Today, she is featuring me on her Saturday Spotlight! How exciting! So, go there now ... then come back here!

Remember the sneak peek I gave on Twitter? It was this rug ... found it at Home Depot and loved it! Since we painted our kitchen brown it was the perfect way to bring that color in and well as shades of blue with the traditional red and green.

So that was the beginning ...

Next comes the tree (#1 for those who will be counting how many we have LOL).

By the tree is this sweet little hutch ... which if you pay close attention you will see that I changed my mind about what to put on the top as I was taking pictures. (Just had to point out this great cookie jar a friend gave me last year ... I mean, seriously, EVERYONE needs a cool Christmas handbag cookie jar!! I love it!)

Here are some pictures of the second try on the top of the hutch ... again mixing the blues and brown with red and green.

Went with simple on the table (which was Scott's great-grandmother's). Casiday picked which placemats we should put out. She liked that these have a place to put the silverware.

Little touches on the curtains.

The "coffee station" with a bubble light because who can resist a bubble light!! And THE Kitchen Aid ... just had to throw that picture in. (Oh and for those who wondered about the change in color in my kitchen ... look at the wall color in the coffee pic -it's the old color. Don't ask!!)

Just one last picture to give you a better idea of how it all looks together. I'm loving it ... next up ... the master bedroom! Remember how much I love my tree in there!!

OK. I like the garland better on the top shelf too. And Casiday made a geate pick with the place mats...I don't know what the choices were, but I like the snowmen. And just so you know, if I had good money...I would spend it on that table. That is sweet. But knowing that it is Scott's great-grandmothers makes it priceless!! And last but not least and b/c I'm a dork...is that a rotary phone I see on your wall. And if so, do you still use it? I look forward to the rest of the cheerful tour!!!

Stephanie,it isn't a rotary phone but it looks like one. It has the dial but also buttons so that it is touch tone. I saw it in a catalog and HAD to have it! I love using it ... the cord stretches all thru the kitchen and we can use it when the power is out since it's not cordless. LOL I do have a friend who has her grandmother's house that has the original rotary phone they put in there. It is very cool!!

Sandra, thanks ... bedroom coming up next!

Browns and blues are my favorite! Never thought of using them at Christmas, though. I am inspired! OOH! I'm so excited to see the rest of the house! Marcus won't let me decorate til after Thanksgiving. It's just as well--this house needs a deep-cleaning before any decorating can happen. I"m banishing the boys for a couple of hours this afternoon so I can scrub and dust and vacuum. Then...it's ON!

I think we have the same lamp in our living room and the same tile in our kitchen! What have we been saying about great minds?? Now...I'm going to go make some coffee and finish cleaning and decorating!

That's one festive kitchen...that's what I like to see! Your house must be delightful this time of year. :)

Oh I like the new brown color! I want to paint my living room a rich deep brown, but it's so small....it'd feel like a cave!
